![]() ![]() The coating peeled off where the frame is mounted to the lenses on rimless eyewear. Here in the picture above you can see typical damages. When the ultrasonic cleaner is used the imploding vacuum bubbles will then rip off the coating in the areas where damages are already present. With this type of glasses, the coating has to undergo additional mechanical strain as holes get drilled and the components will cause slight pulling and pressure movements when the glasses are used which causes microscopic cracks in the coating. The coating starts to peel off from the edges and the damage over time works its way into the middle of the lenses.Įven worse is the situation when the glasses are rimless. So this is where people see the damages first. Of course, a cooling liquid is always used but on a microscopic level, the coating will be influenced. This cutting process produced heat where around the edges of the lenses. The coating had to undergo mechanical strain as a CNC machine cut the shape of the lenses out of a round bigger lens. When people see the damages on the glasses usually it is the coating. But what if the damage is already within the glasses when you bought it? Where People See Damages First on the Glasses After Using Ultrasonic Cleaners? Generally speaking, 35kHz is recommended to clean glasses effectively and without damage. This frequency modulation in ultrasonic baths is often described as sweep tec. The targeted, very fast frequency changes of the frequency modulation automatic frequency control generate a particularly homogeneous, uniform ultrasonic field in the entire bath volume. Standing waves create inhomogeneous sonication and, in the worst case, can damage sensitive cleaning objects. Rigid operating frequencies in ultrasonic devices can lead to standing waves in the ultrasonic bath under unfavorable conditions. ![]() During operation, the working frequency can deviate considerably from the nominal frequency due to slight frequency modulation. When the frequency falls below 35kHz those pressure surges can lead to mechanical strain that could damage glasses.įor this purpose, the device components must be optimized and tuned so that they always generate the best operating frequency, even with changing loads due to load, level, temperature, and liquid. During the tension phase, these oscillations lead to the generation of millions of tiny vacuum bubbles in all fluids, which implode during the compression phase, generating highly effective pressure surges. The cleaning of glasses works with ultrasonic baths because little oscillations of the water in the bath are generated. ![]()

![]() ![]() A growing number of older adults fear to fall and, as a result, limit their activities and social engagements. Falls, with or without injury, also carry a heavy quality of life impact. The financial toll for older adult falls is expected to increase as the population ages and may reach 67.7 billion dollars by 2020. ![]() ![]() In 2015, the total cost of fall injuries was 50 billion dollars. Falls are the leading cause of fatal injury and the most common cause of nonfatal trauma-related hospital admissions among older adults. That means every 11 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall, every 19 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that one in four Americans aged 65+ falls each year. ![]() This, in turn, leads to hospitalization and risk for complications such as pneumonia, pulmonary embolus, permanent disability, and death. Many elderly (both in the community and institutions) express a fear of falling this fear is well-founded since many falls, especially in thin white females with a high risk of osteoporosis, resulting in fractured hips. Age-related changes in the central nervous system and peripheral nerves that control balance may play a role in predisposing the elderly to falls. In the case of almost 40 % of deaths caused by heart problems among the age group 65+, it is increasingly important to monitor the heart rate, save the data and analyze it by professionals.įalls, due to several causes, such as locomotor disturbances, arthritis, and related orthopedic conditions, environmental barriers, and drug side effects, are exceedingly common. According to the study from The Eurostat 38.7 % of all deaths among the elderly population in the EU were from circulatory diseases, compared with almost one quarter (23.8 %) from cancer and less than one-tenth (8.9 %) from respiratory diseases. It is increasingly clear that there are at least two major subgroups of the elderly: those aged 65-74 (the “young- old”), who are generally very fit and active, and those 75 and older (the “old-old”), who have a much higher prevalence of illness and disability. For this reason, it is essential to research and create an overview of the main causes of elderly persons losing autonomy in the form of a State of the Art analysis. This means families and the government need to invest a lot more into elderly care and make innovations in monitoring one of the weakest social groups. With the growth of life expectancy, there are going to be more and more elderly persons to take care of. Researches show that in the next 10 years the average life expectancy at the age of 10 in developed countries rises from 74.5 to 76.5. The wearable elderly monitoring device provides autonomous elderly persons, the family of a semi-autonomous elderly person, or a full-time caretaker of an elderly person with information to avoid or detect as soon as possible a potentially fatal situation. Our solution targets elders who still have a degree of mobility (albeit reduced) and spend most of their time inside their own house. Thankfully, due to perpetual technological advancements and constant cost reduction of electronic components, every day we are one step closer to a human-less monitoring system capable of measuring all vitals and recognize unusual behavior of patients. Ideally, no supervisors would be required at all. One of the biggest challenges that arise from caregiving is being able to monitor a large number of patients without requiring a large number of supervisors as well. This made us think about ways in which we could design an IoT system that would improve a senior citizen's life, without invading the privacy, while helping their loved ones know about his/her current state. Through non-stop monitoring, problems and accidents can be detected in time and the negative effects will be diminished substantially. Many accidents are not reported on time because the elderly cannot ask for help and they are taken and treated in the hospital after a longer period of time. Most of them have health problems and need frequent assistance. At this moment, there is a large number of old people living alone. Therefore, we will be reaching a point in the future in which the elderly population will vastly outnumber the workforce available to look after them. Although still growing, the global population is predicted to be level out at the end of the 21st century. We are undoubtedly facing a global phenomenon, named population aging. Customer Value, Cost, Convenience, Communication ![]() ![]() One, when you write them down, it’s a better way to communicate efficiently to lots of employees, lots of customers.īut also it sets the tone and the legal obligation. As we grow, and as we look for the decades to come, it’s important to write things down and to formalize them in your articles of incorporation for a couple of reasons. And I’ve been very proud of employees for doing it that way. The company, we always operated by our values. You have to pay attention to all your stakeholders, not just shareholders. ![]() And that’s why I think the public-benefit corporation is a great structure, because it puts that right in the charter. I think it’s very important that the internal ethos and way of working of a company matches its charter. Small business has to take care of its customers and its neighborhood, because there is no external safety net. And if I lose one, we probably have to move out of our house. I remember him telling me the importance of customers And him saying we have about three big customers. So just this idea of quality– and then he also taught me about customers. And I’d ask him, is it good enough? And he’d say, if you have to ask me, it’s not good enough. I would do a little job for him, and I’d come back. He had this big sign that said quality is job one. So I worked in that machine shop, and I learned a lot of lessons from my dad. ![]() When I was growing up, I didn’t know anything about a public-benefit corporation. I remember being on a bike ride and realizing I have to act here. And then we got close to 1,000 people, and I started hearing about this public-benefit corporation concept.Īnd I thought, wow, that is more like the type of company that I would want to run. It’s a small company, you know? It’s a startup. And I thought, hey, Veeva– it’ll probably go out of business anyway. And I thought that’s strange, that’s not quite aligned with who I am. It was basically you need to make money for the shareholders and don’t do anything illegal, and that’s it. ![]() And I read them, and it sounded overly simplistic to me. When I started Veeva, I signed our articles of incorporation. When thinking about corporate governance, it’s really about ethics, about corporate ethics, about trying to do the right things, about realizing you have a responsibility to all your stakeholders, not just your shareholders. And Veeva became the first public company to convert. PETER GASSNER: January 2021, 99% of voting shareholders voted for our proposal to become a public-benefit corporation. ![]() ![]() ![]() Analyses show that our new task is semantically challenging, capturing content overlap beyond lexical similarity and complements cross-document coreference with proposition-level links, offering potential use for downstream tasks.read more read lessĪbstract: Phrase representations derived from BERT often do not exhibit complex phrasal compositionality, as the model relies instead on lexical similarity to determine semantic relatedness. We employ crowd-workers for constructing a dataset of QA-based alignments, and present a baseline QA alignment model trained over our dataset. Our setting exploits QA-SRL, utilizing question-answer pairs to capture predicate-argument relations, facilitating laymen annotation of cross-text alignments. We go beyond clustering coreferring mentions, and instead model overlap with respect to redundancy at a propositional level, rather than merely detecting shared referents. In order to explicitly represent content overlap, we propose to align predicate-argument relations across texts, providing a potential scaffold for information consolidation. Current methods confronting consolidation struggle to fuse overlapping information. The results of our experiments on data logs of two real search engines show that the proposed method outperforms some well-known algorithms by at least 14% with respect to precision and P 10 parameters.read more read lessĪbstract: Multi-text applications, such as multi-document summarization, are typically required to model redundancies across related texts. The hybrid graph, created by consolidating the query community and query-flow graphs, takes into account the lexical similarity as well as the reformulation diversity to suggest queries. The second layer is enriched by a query-flow graph which models the transitional patterns made by users inside sessions. To reduce the overhead of clustering while preserving its performance, we utilize locality-sensitive hashing of k -shingles to represent queries in a space with smaller and fixed dimensions. This graph is generated through clustering similar queries which tend to convey the same meaning. In this paper, we propose a novel three-layer query recommendation method which is benefited from a query community graph in the first layer. A proper solution for query recommendation is to analyze the users’ behaviors and mimic the query transition patterns adopted by different users who are succeeded in finding their needed information. ![]() Abstract: Search engines recommend queries to improve the satisfaction level of users by shortening their search task. ![]() ![]() He will always be remembered for his carefree, romantic style.
